Former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe is suing the club for alleged “clinical negligence” relating to medical advice he received during his time at Old Trafford, according to reports. Tuanzebe left United two years ago as a free agent when his contract expired after relentless injuries thwarted his promising development.
The 27-year-old helped Ipswich Town win promotion to the Premier League in the 2023/24 season and made 22 top-flight appearances last term. He was released upon the expiry of his two-year contract earlier this summer following relegation, but signed for Burnley ahead of their own Premier League return in June.
According to the Telegraph, Tuanzebe has filed a claim at the High Court as part of a legal recourse over “clinical negligence”.
The DR Congo international, who represented England’s youth teams, seemed destined for a bright career at Old Trafford when he broke onto the scene.
Tuanzebe had been at United since the age of eight, captaining the club in every age group before making his senior debut in a 4-0 FA Cup win at Wigan Athletic in January 2017.
However, injuries blighted his progress, and he accumulated just 37 senior appearances in the near-seven years that followed before his departure.
