British Tour de France winner Chris Froome has been airlifted to hospital after a crash during training. A statement posted on his official X account on Thursday said he was injured while training and taken to hospital in Toulon, France. No other vehicles or cyclists were involved. Froome’s team said the rider will undergo surgery this afternoon.
The cyclist has won the Tour de France four times, the Vuelta España twice and is a winner of the Giro d’Italia. He is also a two-time Olympic Games medalist.
The statement on X said: “Chris was airlifted to hospital in Toulon yesterday following a serious training crash (no other cyclists or vehicles were involved).
“Fortunately Chris is stable and did not sustain any head injuries, however, scans have confirmed a pneumothorax, five broken ribs and a lumbar vertebrae fracture, for which he will undergo surgery this afternoon. We will update on Chris’ condition following surgery”.
